GLOHRA turns three

GLOHRA looks back at three years of supporting global health research

In February 2020 the German Alliance for Global Health Research (GLOHRA) was established as an initiative for interdisciplinary, international and cross-sector global health research with funding from the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF). Since our inception, GLOHRA membership has expanded rapidly to include more than 950 members from more than 180 research institutions. Now that GLOHRA celebrates its third year, we want to look back on three highlights.

  • In 2020 we developed a mechanism for evaluating interdisciplinary research projects and launched our first call for proposals. Until today GLOHRA has awarded 2.6 million euros in research project funding and supported 18 research projects including collaborators in 15 countries.
  • In 2021 the Global Health Academy launched, and the first Academy Series took place. Until today GLOHRA has supported 18 Global Health Academy events and/or innovative trainings for more than 600 participants.
  • In 2022, additional measures to strengthen cooperation with partners in low and middle income countries have been funded by the Federal Ministry for Economic Development and Cooperation (BMZ). Eight projects are now actively supporting research translation and impact.
