Global Health Research on Novel Paths: Experiences from initiatives by German public funding

In-person Satellite Session at CUGH 2024

Time & Date: 13:00-16:00 PST, 7 March 2024
Location: CUGH 2024 Room Beaudry A, Westin Bonaventure, Los Angeles, California

As a leading international donor and a country with strong research, Germany has started several initiatives for strengthening research in global health and linking it to practice by establishing new platforms. Global health research is one of the pillars of the new German Global Health Strategy. Three of the government-funded programs, the German Alliance for Global Health Research (GLOHRA) and the DAAD Global Centers for Health and Pandemic Prevention and the Research Networks for Health Innovations in Sub-Saharan Africa (RHISAA), will be presented in more detail during this session. The session will discuss approaches to connecting global health researchers both nationally and internationally, establishing and incentivizing interdisciplinary project review processes, supporting early career researchers, intercontinental joint supervision as well as fostering cross-sector dialogues with government bodies.

GLOHRA will co-host this session together with the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) as part of the in-person pre-conference to the annual symposium of the Consortium of Universities for Global Health (CUGH).
