Dates: 5 - 6 December 2024
Location: Heidelberg Institute of Global Health (HIGH), Universitätsklinikum Heidelberg
This interdisciplinary workshop aims to assess and prioritize global health research opportunities at the intersection of cardiovascular health (CVH) across the life course and planetary health. Climate change, rapid urbanization, aging population, shifting patterns of lifestyle behaviors, environmental factors and cardiometabolic risk factors are examples of interdependent forces that impact planetary health and cardiovascular health across the life course as well as broader equity in healthcare access and health outcomes. Research can help us determine the full adverse health impact of changes in planetary health, and clarify the causal and bidirectional relationships between planetary and cardiovascular health to guide prevention and health promotion strategies.
Workshop objectives
- Identify key scientific knowledge gaps, research methods, and opportunities at the intersection of cardiovascular and planetary health from the lens of interdisciplinary socio-ecological framework
- Improve the scientific understanding of the bidirectional and interdependent relationship of cardiovascular health across the life course and planetary health
- Explore strategies to co-design and implement proven interventions to tackle planetary and cardiovascular health and synergistically advance health equity
